DESCRIPTION:**This course is for members only. Please visit the members tab of the AGES website to join or renew now** \n\n\n\nThe Lap D Workshop is designed for Specialist and Trainee Obstetricians and Gynaecologists with laparoscopic skills who wish to expand their knowledge of pelvic and abdominal retroperitoneal anatomy while advancing their laparoscopic surgical dissection techniques.   \n\n\n\nAGES aims to allow access to quality anatomy teaching by providing workshops focusing on a functional laparoscopic approach to pelvic anatomy.  The dissection workshop allows eighteen (18) registrants to participate in lectures\, undertake anatomical dissection on female fresh frozen donors and interact with highly skilled laparoscopic surgeons as they delve into the anatomical aspects of the female pelvis.   \n\n\n\nAn introductory lecture series is followed by two\, three hour operating and dissection sessions using fresh frozen female donors.  \n\n\n\nThe workshops are held at the Medical Engineering and Research Facility (MERF)\, Queensland University of Technology (QUT) facility in Brisbane.  \n\n\n\nThree participants are assigned to each donor and will be closely supervised by an experienced advanced laparoscopic surgical instructor. Each participant will be able to operate\, assist and observe to optimise the learning experience as they rotate evenly through each step.   \n\n\n\nThe workshop will focus on dissection of the pelvic side wall\, with particular emphasis on the surgical layers\, spaces and anatomical structures contained within.  \n\n\n\nRetroperitoneal spaces around the bladder\, pelvic floor\, large bowel and kidneys will all be explored.   \n\n\n\nAll participants will be provided with pre-reading and copies of the presentations a week prior to the workshop.   \n\n\n\nRegistrants are expected to confidently increase their anatomical knowledge and awareness\, allowing for improved surgical confidence\, outcomes and reduced complications for their patients.  \n\n\n\nRegistrations will be opening in 2024! Check back regularly for all updates about Lap-D in 2024!

SUMMARY:International Urogynecology Awareness Day
DESCRIPTION:International Urogynecology Awareness Day\, February 20\, is a day dedicated to raising awareness about the vital field of urogynecology and honoring the professionals who work tirelessly to improve women’s health. In celebration of this day\, we had the opportunity to interview Dr. Harold Drutz (Canada)\, Dr. Donald Ostergard (USA)\, and Dr. Mark Vierhout (The Netherlands)\, dedicated experts in the field. \n\n\n\nPicture this: You and your friend Samantha are enjoying brunch at a cafe when\, in the middle of great laughs\, her mood suddenly changes\, and you see a look of shock and discomfort in her face. She opens up about her struggles with urinary leakage. Despite her outgoing nature\, this has been causing her embarrassment and affecting her daily life\, making her hesitant to engage in social activities\, or even enjoy simple outings without worry. \n\n\n\nSeeing her frustration\, you suggest she see a urogynecologist.“A urogynecologist?!”\, she exclaims with surprise. With a relieved expression\, knowing she’s not alone in this\, you see her demeanor return to the fun-loving friend you know. \n\n\n\nSo\, What Exactly is Urogynecology?\n\n\n\nUrogynecology is a subspecialty within the field of gynecology that focuses on diagnosing and treating pelvic floor disorders in women. The pelvic floor is made up of a network of muscles\, ligaments\, and connective tissues that support various pelvic organs\, such as the bladder\, uterus\, vagina\, and rectum.
